Georgetown assists Jamestown with silo fire
Friday, November 20th around 5pm Jamestown fire was called to a silo fire on Ottagan Rd between Kenowa and 8th Ave. Georgetown stations 1 and 2 assisted by sending a ladder truck , heavy rescue and engine. The majority of the fire was contained in the first hour but this quickly became an extended operation as night time fell. A second ladder truck was dispatched from Hudsonville Fire Department for lights and water suppression. They had to first contain the burnt corn inside, then slowly empty from the bottom wetting the corn inside that couldn’t be reached by the ladder trucks. Salem Twp. from Allegan county were called to assist Jamestown in a tanker shuttle to supply water for the fire. Thanks to Blendon Twp and Zeeland Twp Fire Departments for back filling Jamestown and Georgetown during the 6-8 hour operation.
